What is Build-Up Berkeley? A Business Pitch Competition

Build-Up Berkeley is a program that supports small business owners through a series of professional development classes and networking events, which lead to a pitch competition. Over three months, participants learn about various topics, including business plan development, finance and legal know-how, and marketing tactics. The participating entrepreneurs apply what they’ve learned to pitch their business to a panel of judges. In 2025, they are competing for a $10,000 Grand Prize.      

Even if they don’t win, Build-Up Berkeley participants walk away with invaluable business knowledge, strong networking connections, and a vision for their organization's future. All participants receive educational credits provided by Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, and professionally edited headshots provided by Thad Reid. This program is available to both new and existing businesses.
